Young Creature

The tender blue sky swells wide before you;
Sunlight dances on your lashes and hair,
And makes shimmering orbs of morning dew;
Wind plays on the curves of your cheeks so fair;
The raindrops that touch your pale skin are warm,
As is your halo of vitality;
Plants of poison touch and cause you no harm;
Trees you grace are blessed for eternity;
But as is youth, yours will harshly decay,
And leave this world with nothing but a trace,
Of the sweetness that was on full display;
Past young jubilance, fresh as Queen Ann’s Lace;
May each child live as true as you did,
May each child’s truth hide as you yours hid.
